Medical Education

Medical Education - ArthroAcademy
Continuing professional training is a fundamental aspect of the Arthrex’s philosophy.  Arthrex UK is committed to supporting surgeons and health care professionals at every stage of their careers.  The ArthroAcademy pathway provides surgeons with continued education and support throughout their careers from Senior Registrar (Futures) and Fellowship Forum Courses to Consultant level continued education (Cutting Edge series and Summit meetings).

Arthrex UK is a Royal College of Surgeons accredited training centre and as such all ArthroAcademy Courses offer CPD points.

Alongside surgeon education we appreciate the critical role of surgical theatre staff and thus also provide regional bespoke SCRUBS training opportunities.

SCRUBS Surgical Theatre Staff Training

Surgical Staff

Arthrex has been committed to providing education and training for surgical theatre staff since our inception in 1981, and our SCRUBS training opportunities demonstrate our passion for continuing this partnership into the future.

SCRUBS training workshops offer a full day focusing on the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques, in areas such as shoulder, knee and foot and ankle. Each can be customised to ensure they are relevant to your hospital and your surgeons’ practice.

Each day is designed to introduce practitioners to the basic skills of arthroscopy, including the underpinning anatomy, supported by experienced Arthrex staff. We then continue through the key techniques used to deal with the common pathology within the relevant limb. Attendees will have the opportunity to get hands-on practice in these techniques, using surgical models and the Arthrex 4K imaging system.

A shoulder day will include common pathology of instability and rotator cuff tears.

A knee day will cover techniques such as meniscal tears and ACL ruptures.

foot & ankle day covers common problems surgeons deal with – both bony and soft tissue, chronic and acute.

For more information on how to book a training day please contact your local Arthrex Representative.

Futures Registrar training courses

The Futures programmes provide dedicated one-day registrar (ST7-8) courses in partnership with our consultant surgeon colleagues. The courses focus on state-of-the-art least invasive orthopaedic techniques for core specialities including shoulder, knee and foot and ankle surgery. By utilising the UK’s new Lab, Innovation Point, delegates get quality, hands-on opportunities to learn from experienced, first class Faculty in a safe environment.

The shoulder course will cover the basics of shoulder arthroscopy from positioning, portal placement and fluid management. The day will also feature an introduction to the more complex procedures any sports shoulder surgeon would encounter, including management of instability repairs and rotator cuff tears in a variety of different technical styles.

The knee course will cover the basics of knee arthroscopy from positioning, portal placement and fluid management. It will then continue through an introduction to the more complex procedures any sports knee surgeon would encounter, revolving around managing varying and complex meniscal lesions to ACL reconstruction, in a manner that suits any surgical philosophy.

The foot and ankle course will cover forefoot, midfoot and hindfoot osteotomies and fusions. The programme will continue on to ligament reconstruction and trauma that any foot and ankle practice would likely encounter, revolving around managing varying techniques and cutting-edge procedures.
